Who is Harry van Yogya?

His complete name is Blasius Haryadi. He is a becak/pedi cab driver. He speaks English and even Dutch quite well.

“I started driving the Pedi cab in 1990 when I was still a math student. I became a Pedi cab driver because I had some money problems. So I tried to think about how I can earn money without disrupting my school activities. The only solution I came up with was to become a Pedi cab driver. So in the day I would go to my classes but then at night I would drive the pedicab.”

- Interviewed by KBR68H-

Harry is active on social network sites. He has made two groups on Facebook called Becak Jogja and Bellongg Independent Tour. He has a twitter account @harryvanyogya with an amazing 4300 followers. You can order his services by texting, emailing, through twitter of even facebook. He is not only popular in the social media, he has also published his own book “the becak way”.

So the next time you find yourself in Jogja, why not try and tweet him…you may just end up with lots of stories about Jogja…from a not so ordinary Pedi cab driver..

Bravo Harry!

Only in his hands I trusted my artworks. The first song that crossed my mind to picture him is Melancholy Blues by The Queen.

I’m causing a mild sensation
With this new occupation
I’m permanently glued
To this extraordinary mood so now move over
Let me take over
With my melancholy blues

Writer, Journalist, art lovers and mother

Mother of two children prefer to call her selves as a pedestrian life. Still trying to find time to balance herself by cooking, knitting, meditation and art: writing and reading poetry, playing ketoprak, and helping his friends in the keroncong’s community. I quotes one of her favorite’s writer :

In the corner of her eternal kicthen
a woman was pounding salt in her mortar.
“I will create hope,” she said, “on the black stone.”
Smoke was never brief. Its ceiling was the color of the world
in Jeremiah’s dreams.

She herself mused on fish in an aquarium, swimming,
like lazy balloons unaware of their own painted sign
in the sky. “They are the ones who dreaming,”
the said to herself.

[Javanese proverbs :  In life, there is no point to be greatly ambitious]

Why black?

You wear yellow clothes, the color of your shadow will still remains black. That is, what he was thinking, what was done, what he felt, what was said and what must be done the same and consequently.

Because of his fanatic admiration for Soekarno figure since the age of five, he  has been dismissed from his job couples of times.
